It begins in mocks corner on US-52. It travels right next to lake moultrie. then it crosses lake marion east of I-95. It the goes to sumter where it intersects a lot of us highways. Then it merges with US-521. It passes under I-20 and proceeds to Camden. It then goes on to the town of Kershaw, running concurrent with US 601. The final city it goes through before going into North Carolina is Lancaster. It then splits from US-521 and becomes parallel with I-485. Once it goes near I-77, it goes westward. while it does, it intersects with US-321, US-64, I-40, US-70, US-221, and US-421. It then merges with US-221 and enters virginia. It then ends at an intersection with I-81 in marion.
